As Nigeria joins the global community to mark World Day Against Child Labour on June 12, 2025, the First Lady of the Federal Republic, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for renewed commitment to eliminate child labour across the nation.
With the theme “Let’s Speed Up Efforts! End Child Labour!”, Her Excellency described the practice as a serious violation of children’s rights and a major threat to national development.
> “It is heartbreaking that many of our children are still trapped in labour instead of being in school, learning, and preparing for a better future,” the First Lady said.
Senator Tinubu emphasized the urgent need for stronger policies, legal reforms, family support systems, and access to quality education to break the cycle of poverty and protect vulnerable children.
She urged all Nigerians—governments, civil society, families, and community leaders—to work together to create a safe and enabling environment where every child can grow, dream, and realize their full potential.
> “Let us build a country where every child is free to thrive. Together, we can end child labour,” she added.
As the campaign gains momentum, the First Lady reaffirmed her commitment to championing child welfare initiatives and promoting education as a key tool for empowerment.
