First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has paid a condolence visit to Benue State, following the recent wave of violent attacks that claimed numerous lives, especially in Yelwata and Dauda communities.
Describing the killings as “heart-wrenching and unnecessary,” Mrs. Tinubu emphasized the urgent need for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, stressing that the country’s diversity should be a source of strength, not division.
“As a mother, I appeal to all of you to let go of grievances and embrace dialogue and patience over violence,” she said. “Peace is the foundation for growth, and love is the greatest force that conquers all.”
Highlighting Benue’s critical role as Nigeria’s “food basket,” the First Lady noted that the state’s agricultural contributions are essential to the nation’s food security and economic development. She assured the people that all concerns raised during the visit would be relayed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and relevant authorities.
In his remarks, Benue State Governor, Rev. Father Hyacinth Alia, reiterated the call for state and community policing to ensure timely security response and effective intelligence gathering.
“This tragedy highlights the pressing need for localized policing structures to protect our people and prevent further loss of lives,” the Governor stated. He also commended the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), praising her compassion and proactive support for vulnerable Nigerians.
The Tor Tiv of Benue, Prof. James Ayatse, appealed for urgent government intervention to combat the activities of violent herdsmen terrorizing farming communities. He warned that if unchecked, these attacks could cripple national food production and worsen insecurity across the country.
As part of her visit, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on behalf of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), presented a donation of One Billion Naira (N1bn) to the Benue State Government to assist victims of the attacks in rebuilding their lives and livelihoods
