Security operatives in Abuja are intensifying efforts to combat fraud and impersonation, following the arrest of four suspects allegedly involved in a high-profile land scam linked to the name of the Federal Capital Territory Minister.

The suspects are accused of impersonating the Minister to defraud a retired senior military officer and other victims of over one hundred and fifty million naira.

According to Mediaplusng.com, the case highlights growing concerns over land-related fraud in Abuja, where individuals exploit high-ranking government names to deceive unsuspecting buyers seeking property allocations.

Police investigations reveal that one of the suspects, identified as Yashim Kajang, is arrested for allegedly orchestrating the scheme by posing as a close associate of the FCT Minister and officials within the land administration system.

The suspect allegedly convinces his victims that he has direct access to land allocation processes, promising to secure official documents for plots located in Guzape II Cadastral Zone, a high-value area within the Federal Capital Territory.

The victims, including a retired Major General, are reportedly persuaded to part with large sums of money in anticipation of securing prime land allocations.

The total amount involved exceeds one hundred and fifty million naira.

According to Mediaplusng.com, the suspect allegedly collects payments under the pretense of facilitating documentation for a specific plot measuring about three hectares, along with other land parcels.

During interrogation, the prime suspect reportedly provides information leading to the arrest of three additional individuals believed to be accomplices in the fraudulent operation.

The accomplices are identified as individuals allegedly connected to departments within the Federal Capital Territory Administration, as well as a private associate based in Abuja.

Investigators allege that these accomplices supply critical data and insider information regarding land allocations, which is then used to make the fraudulent scheme appear legitimate to potential victims.

The police say the suspects work in coordination, combining access to information with deceptive tactics to carry out the fraud.

Authorities confirm that all four suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation, as efforts continue to uncover the full extent of the alleged criminal network.

Security agencies emphasize that impersonating public officials to commit fraud is a serious offense under Nigerian law and will be prosecuted accordingly.

Analysts note that land scams remain one of the most common forms of fraud in major cities like Abuja, driven by high demand for property and limited access to verified information.

Experts are advising prospective land buyers to conduct thorough due diligence, verify all claims through official government channels, and avoid making payments without proper documentation.

The case also underscores the importance of strengthening institutional safeguards within land administration systems to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive information.

Authorities reiterate their commitment to protecting citizens from fraudulent activities and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.

Ultimately, the arrest of the suspects is seen as a significant step in tackling impersonation and land fraud in the Federal Capital Territory, while sending a strong warning to others involved in similar criminal activities.

Investigations are ongoing.
