The Federal Road Safety Corps is strengthening road safety operations with the launch of a national training programme for Safe-To-Load operatives in Lagos, targeting improved compliance among heavy-duty vehicle operators.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the initiative, held in collaboration with the Major Energies Marketers’ Association of Nigeria, focuses on enhancing safety standards in petroleum transportation and reducing road traffic crashes involving tanker and heavy goods vehicles.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, leads the strategic engagement and officially flags off the training, emphasizing the urgent need to eliminate road accidents associated with the haulage of petroleum products across Nigeria.
He stresses that the era of recklessness and non-compliance on Nigerian roads must come to an end, noting that the FRSC is committed to achieving zero crashes and fatalities, particularly in the transportation of hazardous materials.
The Safe-To-Load initiative is designed to ensure that petroleum tankers meet strict safety requirements before departure, including vehicle roadworthiness, driver fitness, and compliance with loading regulations.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the training equips operatives with modern inspection techniques, regulatory knowledge, and enforcement strategies aimed at promoting professionalism and accountability within the transport sector.
Industry stakeholders highlight that accidents involving fuel tankers often result in devastating consequences, including loss of lives, environmental hazards, and destruction of property, making strict compliance critical.
The FRSC underscores that collaboration with industry players such as MEMAN is essential to driving sustainable safety reforms, as both regulators and operators share responsibility for maintaining standards.
Participants in the training are encouraged to carry out their duties with diligence, integrity, and excellence, ensuring that every vehicle inspected meets the required safety benchmarks before accessing the roads.
The Corps Marshal reiterates that effective enforcement of safety regulations will significantly reduce risks associated with petroleum transportation and improve overall road safety outcomes nationwide.
He also calls on transport companies, drivers, and other stakeholders to embrace safety culture, adhere strictly to guidelines, and support initiatives aimed at safeguarding lives and property.
Road safety experts note that continuous training and monitoring of transport operators remain key to addressing systemic challenges in the sector and preventing avoidable accidents.
The FRSC assures Nigerians that it will sustain enforcement, capacity building, and stakeholder engagement as part of broader efforts to create safer roads and enhance public confidence in the nation’s transport system.
The Safe-To-Load programme is expected to set a new benchmark in operational standards, reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to safer highways and efficient petroleum distribution systems.
