The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the tragic loss of five personnel in September 2025, who were knocked down by reckless drivers while carrying out their duties on Nigerian roads. The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has directed the immediate prosecution of all motorists involved in these incidents to serve as a deterrent to others.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the knockdowns occurred across several states: Ekiti Sector Command on September 6, Ogun Sector Command on September 8, Taraba Sector Command on September 15, Jos By-Pass Unit Command on September 19, and Obollo Afor Unit Command on September 24. The FRSC says these deaths are not just statistics but represent lives of dedicated men and women who died protecting road users.
Mediaplusng.com reports that the Corps Marshal expressed deep concern over the growing risks faced by FRSC officers, who now contend not only with speeding vehicles but also with kidnappings, violent attacks, and targeted assaults. He stressed that the Corps will no longer tolerate reckless behavior that endangers its personnel, warning that offenders will face the full weight of the law. The FRSC is also working with security agencies to strengthen protection for its officers and installations.
On behalf of the Corps, Shehu Mohammed extended condolences to the families of the fallen heroes, praising their courage and sacrifice. He urged Nigerians to respect traffic laws, support the FRSC, and honour the memory of the deceased by ensuring safety on the highways. Mediaplusng.com notes that the Corps Marshal has firmly cautioned that disregard for traffic laws or attacks on FRSC personnel will attract severe sanctions and legal consequences
