The Nigerian Army says a suicide bomber caused the explosion at a mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, on Tuesday, December 24, 2025, at about 6:00 p.m. The blast killed three people, including the attacker, and injured several others.

Mediaplusng.com reports that Lt. Col. Sani Uba, spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), confirmed the bomber detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) inside the mosque. He said the troops, alongside the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, other security agencies, the Borno State Government, and NEMA, quickly secured and cordoned off the area to prevent further harm and protect residents.

Lt. Col. Uba added that casualties were promptly evacuated to Maiduguri General and Teaching Hospitals for treatment. A total of 32 civilians sustained varying degrees of injuries. Sadly, two of the injured later died at the hospital, while two others remain in critical condition. The remaining victims are stable and receiving appropriate medical care.

According to Mediaplusng.com, security agencies have intensified patrols and surveillance across Maiduguri and surrounding areas to ensure public safety during the festive period. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
