Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to developing the state’s blue economy and tourism sector, with a major focus on the Andoni Local Government Area.
During an inspection of the ongoing 13.52-kilometre Ngo–Atlantic Beach–Oyorokoto Road project on Tuesday, the Governor said the new access road will open up economic and social opportunities for residents. The road connects the Andoni Local Government Headquarters to a beach facing the Atlantic Ocean — a location he described as holding vast potential for investment and sustainable development.
According to the Governor, the road project, which passes through challenging coastal terrain, will significantly boost marine and fishing activities in Oyorokoto, known as West Africa’s largest fishing settlement. He added that the initiative will also attract tourism, hospitality businesses, and other commercial ventures that will empower local communities and create jobs for residents.
In addition to the Andoni project, Governor Fubara inspected the 5.2-kilometre Kalaibiama–Epellema Road in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, which includes a 450-metre river-crossing bridge. The Governor said such infrastructure investments are designed to enhance connectivity and promote the economic integration of coastal communities across Rivers State.
As reported by Mediaplusng.com, the Fubara administration is positioning Rivers State as a key destination for blue economy development, leveraging its extensive waterways, tourism potential, and natural resources to diversify the state’s economy beyond oil.
With these ongoing projects, the Governor continues to demonstrate a vision for a more connected, prosperous, and tourism-driven Rivers State — one that fully harnesses its coastal strengths for inclusive growth and future sustainability.
