Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has officially dissolved the Benue State Executive Council. This significant development was announced on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, during the conclusion of the 12th Executive Council meeting in Makurdi.
In a swift move following the dissolution, Governor Alia appointed Barr. Moses Atagher as the new Chief of Staff. Barr. Atagher, a respected legal practitioner and former two-term Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Benue State, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He also previously served as Acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria. His appointment takes immediate effect.
The dissolution affects only the Commissioners, while other principal officers retain their positions. Governor Alia expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Commissioners for their dedicated service over the past two years. He urged those not returning to continue supporting the administration and the party, emphasizing that the reshuffle is aimed at allowing other citizens the opportunity to serve and contribute to the state’s development.
Speaking on behalf of the dissolved cabinet, former Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Barr. Bemsen Mnyim, thanked Governor Alia for the opportunity to serve. He described the experience as a valuable learning journey and pledged continued loyalty to the state.
Governor Alia directed all former Commissioners to hand over their duties to the Permanent Secretaries in their respective ministries without delay.
This reshuffle marks a new phase in the Governor’s efforts to strengthen governance and foster inclusive participation in Benue State’s development agenda.
