In a major political realignment, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The governor was officially received into the ruling party at a high-profile ceremony held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, the state capital.
The event attracted a national presence, with Vice President Kashim Shettima representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Other key figures in attendance included Senate President Godswill Akpabio, APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, members of the National Assembly, and governors from across the country.
The stadium was filled with enthusiastic APC supporters and party faithful, celebrating what many describe as a strategic move for the political future of Akwa Ibom State.
Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, said Governor Eno’s defection to the APC is a welcome development that aligns with the broader vision for national unity and development.
Addressing the crowd, Governor Umo Eno reaffirmed his commitment to the people of Akwa Ibom, stating that his decision to join the APC was made in the best interest of the state. He emphasized that his governance priorities remain focused on sustainable development and improved welfare for all citizens.
In a message delivered on his behalf, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assured Governor Eno of full integration into the party, reiterating his administration’s dedication to building a united and prosperous Nigeria.
Political analysts suggest that more defections from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in Akwa Ibom may occur in the coming weeks, as the state’s political landscape continues to shift.
