Gunmen have abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Samaila Bagudu, in his hometown, Bagudu Local Government Area, Kebbi State. The incident happened on Friday evening when the assailants invaded the town, shooting sporadically to scare residents before whisking away the lawmaker.
According to eyewitness accounts gathered by Mediaplusng.com, the attackers struck shortly after the Deputy Speaker completed his evening prayers and was returning home from the mosque. Residents say the gunmen operated for several minutes without resistance before fleeing the scene with their target.
Confirming the incident, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Government, Ahmed Idris, said security agencies have launched a manhunt to rescue the abducted lawmaker. However, attempts to get additional details from the Kebbi State Police Command were unsuccessful as of press time.
The abduction of a high-ranking government official has once again raised concerns about the rising cases of insecurity and kidnapping in Nigeria’s northern region. Analysts told Mediaplusng.com that the development underscores the urgent need for strengthened community policing and improved intelligence gathering to protect both citizens and public officials.
