Gunmen attack a newly established Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, abducting the pastor, his wife, and several worshippers during Sunday service.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the attack happens early Sunday morning as armed bandits storm the church, forcing members to flee in panic. Loud gunshots echo through the community as the attackers whisk the pastor—popularly known as Orlando—his wife, and others to an unknown location. Residents say the number of abducted victims is still unclear.
The incident throws the entire community into panic, with locals describing the attack as sudden and terrifying. Security sources say the bandits escaped before reinforcement could arrive, leaving many worshippers traumatized.
In a statement published by Mediaplusng.com, the Kogi State Government says it has intensified surveillance, patrols, and a coordinated manhunt to track down the attackers and rescue the captives. Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, confirms that both conventional and local security networks are fully activated.
“The authorities of Yagba West Local Government Council are working closely with security agencies to ensure all kidnapped victims are rescued alive,” Fanwo says. “The perpetrators already know that Kogi will do everything possible to secure its citizens.”
He adds that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is personally coordinating all security operations, assuring the public that updates will be provided as the situation unfolds.
Fanwo urges residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious movements, and prioritize safety.
“When you see something, say something,” he says, advising worship centres in isolated or high-risk areas to relocate temporarily until security improves.
