Gunmen suspected to be armed bandits have killed a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, Umar S/Fada Moriki. The politician is attacked and shot dead on Saturday morning along the Gusau–Tsafe highway, near Fegi village in Tsafe Local Government Area, while travelling from Gusau to Kaduna.
According to a report published by Mediaplusng.com, the Zamfara APC confirms the killing and describes it as a painful loss to the party and the entire state. Party leaders say the incident highlights the growing security concerns in the region.
In a statement by the APC Publicity Secretary in Zamfara State, Yusuf Idris, the party explains that Moriki had just attended a stakeholders’ meeting hosted by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, before he met his death. Idris describes him as a loyal party leader whose service to the APC remains unforgettable.
The late Umar S/Fada Moriki is known for holding major political positions during his lifetime. He served as Vice Chairman of Zurmi Local Government Area, Director-General of State Revenue Generation, and Special Adviser on Rural Electrification. He also contested the Zurmi/Shinkafi House of Representatives seat in the 2023 general elections.
A second report by Mediaplusng.com notes that Moriki dies at the age of 62. He is survived by three wives and several children who now mourn the loss of a father, leader, and community builder.
The APC describes him as a committed public servant who dedicated his life to governance, community development, and humanitarian work. The party also prays for the repose of his soul and calls for stronger security measures to protect citizens across Zamfara State.
