There is tight security at the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja as the former North Central Vice Chairman, Mr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, resumes office as the party’s Acting National Chairman.
According to Mediaplusng.com, Mr. Mohammed arrived at the PDP headquarters with a large number of supporters who had earlier gathered at the party’s FCT office, where he addressed them before proceeding to the national secretariat. He assured his supporters of his commitment to repositioning the party and restoring internal democracy.
Mediaplusng.com reports that Mr. Abdulrahman Mohammed’s assumption of office follows his declaration as the Acting National Chairman by the Samuel Anyanwu-led National Working Committee (NWC). The committee had announced the suspension of the PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, citing internal party issues that required urgent leadership intervention.
Security operatives, including police officers and members of the Department of State Services (DSS), have been stationed around the Wadata Plaza, the PDP’s national secretariat, to maintain order and prevent any breakdown of law and order.
The development has stirred mixed reactions within the party, as members await further clarification from the NWC on the reasons behind the leadership change.
