Mediaplusng.com reports that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has issued a stern warning to staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) against engaging in corrupt activities that could undermine developmental efforts in the Niger Delta region.

This caution was delivered by the ICPC Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner for Rivers and Bayelsa States, Ekere Usiere, during an Anti-Corruption Sensitization Workshop organized for NDDC staff at the Commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.

The sensitization exercise, which forms part of the NDDC’s quarterly Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) activities, was held in collaboration with the ICPC. The initiative aims to reinforce ethical standards and compliance with public service regulations among NDDC personnel.

Speaking at the event, NDDC’s Director of Legal Services, Victor Arenyeka, emphasized the Commission’s commitment to fostering transparency and eliminating unethical practices. He noted that sustained engagements with anti-graft agencies like the ICPC are crucial in ensuring that staff uphold integrity while delivering development projects in the oil-rich Niger Delta.

In his presentation, Evans Peters, Head of Legal at ICPC Rivers State Office, highlighted various corrupt practices prevalent in public institutions and warned that the Commission will take decisive action against any NDDC staff involved in financial misconduct.

Ekere Usiere further urged staff members to familiarize themselves with existing anti-corruption laws and understand the personal and institutional risks associated with corruption. He stressed that adhering to due process is essential to safeguarding both individual careers and the collective mission of the NDDC.

Mediaplusng.com reports that with residents of the Niger Delta clamouring for improved governance and infrastructure, the sensitization drive is expected to promote accountability, enhance service delivery, and rebuild public trust in the Commission.
