Information Minister Urges APC States to Counter False Narratives Against Nigeria

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, is calling on Commissioners for Information from APC-controlled states to take proactive steps in defending Nigeria’s image globally. Speaking at the Progressive Governors’ Summit in Maiduguri, Borno State, the Minister says Nigeria is facing a deliberate campaign of disinformation aimed at damaging the country’s reputation and discouraging foreign investment.

Idris describes the false labeling of Nigeria as a “genocide destination” as a malicious effort to divide the nation and create fear among investors. He urges state information commissioners to lead a coordinated national response that promotes truth, unity, and confidence in the Nigerian story.

> “We are now confronting a deliberate and malicious campaign to falsely label Nigeria a genocide destination. This is not mere misinformation—it’s a coordinated disinformation operation. Our first step must be to disarm and dislodge this corrosive narrative,” Idris says.

According to Mediaplusng.com, the Minister emphasizes that commissioners must serve as the nation’s first line of defense by sharing credible information and showcasing Nigeria’s progress. He calls for teamwork among government leaders, traditional rulers, and civil society to spread positive, data-driven messages that reflect unity and resilience.

Idris also reveals that the Federal Government will soon unveil the National Values Charter, a key part of Nigeria’s reorientation drive to strengthen patriotism and national identity. He explains that the Charter will be “the most powerful counter-narrative to negative foreign mischaracterization of Nigeria,” promoting values such as unity, mutual respect, and diversity.

The Minister tasks all state information commissioners to make the Charter the foundation of their communication strategies and to reinforce stories that promote national pride and shared identity.

Reaffirming President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Idris highlights key government achievements such as the removal of fuel subsidy, naira stabilization, and the approval of four major tax reform bills set to take effect in January 2026. He notes that these reforms are laying the foundation for economic growth and improved social welfare.

He further mentions the ₦1.5 trillion injection into the Bank of Agriculture, the highest in Nigeria’s history, which is expected to boost food security and support farmers nationwide.

According to Mediaplusng.com, the Minister commends President Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as “a reformer second to none” who is gradually steering the nation toward economic stability and inclusive growth.

The summit, hosted by the Borno State Government, brings together Information Commissioners from all APC states to discuss strategic communication, national orientation, and media collaboration to strengthen Nigeria’s image both locally and internationally.
