Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and former Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo paid a courtesy visit to Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, in London, offering heartfelt tributes to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The visit took place during Vice President Shettima’s stay in the United Kingdom, where he is currently leading a high-level Nigerian delegation tasked with accompanying the late President Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria. The Vice President is in London on the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Nigerian delegation includes key figures such as Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; and Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia.
Both Jonathan and Akufo-Addo described the late President Buhari as a dedicated statesman whose contributions to regional peace, security, and governance will not be forgotten. They praised his legacy of public service and his role in strengthening democratic values across West Africa.
The visit underscores the regional and continental respect President Buhari commanded during his lifetime, as well as the deep diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Ghana.
Further updates on the repatriation arrangements and state burial activities are expected to be released by the Presidency in due course.
