Abuja, Nigeria — The Labour Party, under the leadership of its National Chairman, Julius Abure, staged a protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja on Monday, demanding transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
Mediaplusng.com reports that the protesters are calling on INEC to immediately publish the names of Labour Party candidates for the upcoming Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections and National Assembly by-elections. The party members accused INEC of deliberately withholding their candidate list, alleging unfair treatment and bias against the Labour Party.
Speaking during the demonstration, Julius Abure emphasized that the party will not tolerate any form of exclusion or manipulation. He insisted that INEC, as an independent body, must uphold transparency and give all political parties a level playing field in the electoral process.
Mediaplusng.com gathered that the protest, which drew scores of party supporters, is part of ongoing efforts by the Labour Party to ensure its candidates are not sidelined in future elections. The party urged INEC to act swiftly in correcting what it described as a deliberate attempt to frustrate its participation.
As of the time of this report, INEC is yet to officially respond to the Labour Party’s demands.
