The Katsina State Executive Council has greenlit a series of impactful projects aimed at boosting healthcare, power supply, and education as part of its “Building Your Future” development blueprint, Mediaplusng.com reports.

The landmark approvals were made during the Council’s 10th regular meeting held on Tuesday, chaired by Deputy Governor Faruk Jobe, with Governor Dikko Umar Radda joining virtually to ensure seamless leadership and decision-making.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Bala Zango, alongside the Commissioner for Health, Hon. Musa Adamu, and Special Adviser on Education, Alhaji Nura Katsayal, detailed the approved projects.

Mediaplusng.com reports that Hon. Musa Adamu announced a ₦500 million counterpart funding approved by the Council to unlock a ₦1 billion joint nutrition investment with UNICEF, aimed at combating malnutrition among children and adolescent girls in Katsina.

Additionally, Katsina will partner with the Society for Family Health and the Global Fund on a malaria prevention programme, contributing 30% of project costs. The state also approved the procurement of 400,000 insecticide-treated nets to close the existing coverage gap.

“These initiatives underline our aggressive approach to public health challenges,” Adamu noted, adding that the Council also endorsed the acquisition of 30 advanced medical imaging machines to enhance diagnostic healthcare services statewide.

On energy, Information Commissioner Bala Zango revealed that the Council approved a one-megawatt generator to support Katsina’s power infrastructure. He further disclosed ongoing plans for a hydroelectric power project that will not only meet irrigation needs but also supply surplus power to the national grid through KEDCO.

“Reliable electricity is key to driving growth across agriculture, industries, and essential services,” Zango stated, emphasizing alignment with Governor Radda’s energy resilience agenda.

In the education sector, Mediaplusng.com gathered that the Council approved ₦588 million for the procurement of 156,566 textbooks to be distributed to 578 public secondary schools. Special Adviser Alhaji Nura Katsayal explained that the textbooks will cover core subjects such as Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Civic Education, Economics, Literature, Hausa, and Islamic Studies.

“These learning materials are part of Governor Radda’s commitment to elevating education standards across Katsina State,” Katsayal said.

A statement by Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, affirmed that all projects approved align with the state’s “Building Your Future” agenda, focusing on inclusive governance, citizen empowerment, and sustainable development.
