Katsina Mosque Attack: Government Confirms 32 Worshippers Killed, Sends Delegation to Condole Families

The Katsina State Government has confirmed that 32 worshippers were killed in the Tuesday night attack on a mosque in Unguwar Mantau, Malumfashi Local Government Area. Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, who is currently on medical leave, immediately directed the Acting Governor, Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe, to dispatch a high-powered delegation to condole the bereaved families and the affected community.

According to Mediaplusng.com, the delegation was led by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hon. Abdullahi Garba Faskari, and was received by the Village Head of Karfi town along with relatives of the deceased. Speaking on behalf of the Governor and the Acting Governor, Hon. Faskari described the attack as a deeply painful and heartbreaking tragedy.

He assured the people that the government would not relent in its efforts to strengthen security, support victims’ families, and restore lasting peace in Katsina State. “Our hearts are with the families who lost their loved ones in this senseless attack. This administration remains committed to working with all security agencies to ensure justice is served and to prevent such tragedies in the future,” he stated.

During the visit, it was officially confirmed that 32 worshippers lost their lives while observing prayers. The number of those kidnapped is still being verified, as a swift Nigerian Air Force operation disrupted the bandits while they were moving with captives. In the chaos, some victims fled in different directions, while others were rescued and are now receiving treatment in hospitals.

The State Government, in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Kaula, reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and restoring peace across the state. Immediate relief support has been extended to affected families, while a full assessment of damages and needs is ongoing.

As reported by Mediaplusng.com, the delegation included Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs; senior aides on community watch and victims’ welfare; the Member representing Malumfashi at the State Assembly; the Chairman of Malumfashi Local Government; and heads of key security agencies, including the Commissioner of Police, Commander of the Nigerian Army 17 Brigade, Director of the DSS, and the Commandant of the NSCDC.

The government assured residents that decisive measures are being taken to tackle insecurity and ensure that such tragedies never occur again.
