The Kebbi State Government launches the third phase of its 2026 dry-season farming support programme alongside the distribution of Ramadan palliatives, reinforcing efforts to enhance food production and cushion economic hardship for residents.

Mediaplusng.com reports that the exercise is officially flagged off by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, who commends Kebbi State for aligning with national food security objectives and sustaining agricultural productivity through structured interventions.

The initiative targets farmers across the state with critical inputs and mechanised equipment, including fertilisers, power tillers, solar-powered pumping machines, knapsack sprayers, and herbicides. Officials say the intervention is designed to strengthen irrigation farming during the dry season, expand cultivated hectares, and increase crop yields, particularly in rice and other staple foods.

Mediaplusng.com gathers that vulnerable households are also set to benefit from the programme, with more than 6,000 assorted bags of grains distributed as Ramadan palliatives. The humanitarian component aims to provide relief during the fasting period, ensuring food access for low-income families.

Speaking at the event, Minister Kyari states that the programme reflects the commitment of the Kebbi State Government to complement the food security drive of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He emphasizes that increased dry-season farming is critical to stabilizing food supply chains, reducing prices, and achieving sustainable agricultural growth nationwide.

Mediaplusng.com understands that the Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, reiterates his administration’s resolve to continue supporting farmers with inputs, infrastructure, and policy backing. He acknowledges Federal Government efforts to moderate food prices and assures residents that Kebbi will maintain its leading role in rice production and other key crops.

Governor Idris highlights agriculture as a cornerstone of Kebbi’s economy, noting that consistent investment in mechanisation and irrigation has positioned the state as a major contributor to Nigeria’s food basket. He states that empowering farmers during the dry season ensures year-round cultivation and reduces dependence on rain-fed farming.

The governor issues a stern warning to government appointees and officials against diverting agricultural inputs meant for farmers. He calls on security agencies to arrest and prosecute anyone found selling or illegally purchasing the distributed materials, stressing that the intervention must reach its intended beneficiaries.

Agricultural stakeholders describe the third-phase distribution as timely, particularly amid global food supply pressures and climate-related challenges affecting farming cycles. They note that dry-season cultivation, supported by irrigation and mechanisation, plays a vital role in stabilizing food availability and improving rural incomes.

The combined farming support and Ramadan palliatives initiative is expected to strengthen food security, enhance farmers’ productivity, and provide immediate relief to vulnerable populations. As Kebbi State intensifies its agricultural development agenda, the programme signals sustained commitment to economic resilience, poverty reduction, and inclusive growth in Nigeria’s agrarian sector.
