The Kebbi State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is boycotting the party’s national convention taking place today, November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. The chapter says it will not participate in the event because of the candidacy of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, who is contesting for the position of national chairman.
According to the chapter’s Publicity Secretary, Sani Dododo, the Kebbi PDP rejects Turaki’s participation, insisting that he is not a valid member of the party. Mediaplusng.com reports that the chapter is standing by Turaki’s suspension, which was issued in April 2023 by his Nasarawa 1 Ward for alleged gross misconduct, anti-party activities, and failure to pay party dues.
The suspension also affected seven others, including former governorship candidate Gen. Bello S. Yaki. The chapter says these disciplinary actions remain in force and should bar Turaki from contesting any national position.
In a petition dated October 25, 2025, the Kebbi State PDP formally notified the chairman of the screening committee for the national convention of its objection to Turaki’s nomination. The document, jointly signed by State Chairman Alhaji Usman Bello Suru and Secretary Abubakar Bawa Kalgo, included signatures and phone numbers of several state working and non-working committee members who support the rejection. According to Mediaplusng.com, the petition emphasizes that Turaki’s candidacy contradicts the party’s disciplinary process.
The chapter further warns that anyone who appears at the convention claiming to represent Kebbi State does so without authorization. It confirms that all officially recognized delegates from the state are staying away in protest.
Despite the boycott, the PDP national convention is expected to go ahead with delegates and stakeholders from across the country. The party leadership has not yet issued a response to Kebbi PDP’s decision.
