In a major move to reposition Nigeria’s aviation industry, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN) has inaugurated the newly reconstituted Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). The official ceremony, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, marked a fresh chapter for leadership and innovation within the nation’s airport management system.

Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, OFR, former governor and seasoned administrator, was announced as chairman of the new board. Supporting him as Vice-Chair is FAAN’s Managing Director/CEO, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, a respected aviation professional. Mrs. Bridget Gold, FAAN’s Director of Legal Services, will serve as Secretary to the board.

Other appointed members include:

Mrs. Dorothy Duruaka (Federal Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Creative Economy)

Ahmed Ibrahim Sulaiman (Ministry of Defence)

Engr. Nasiru Muazu (Nigerian College of Aviation Technology)

Dr. Omozojie Okoboh (Federal Ministry of Justice)

Engr. Peter Vembe (Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development)

In his address, Minister Keyamo highlighted the vital role of FAAN under the 1996 Federal Airports Authority Act, calling the new board’s inauguration a “critical turning point” in delivering President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for infrastructure and service reform.

“This board is more than ceremonial. It’s a national duty. You are expected to champion transparency, safety, and efficiency in airport operations,” Keyamo stated.

He outlined four key focus areas for the board:

1. Strengthen safety and security across all airports

2. Promote Sustainable Development Practices

3. Improve Passenger Experience with world-class services

4. Enhance strategic collaboration with stakeholders and global partners

Speaking on behalf of the board, Chairman Umar Ganduje thanked the federal government for the opportunity and vowed to uphold the highest standards of accountability, efficiency, and results-driven leadership.

Also addressing the audience, FAAN MD/CEO Olubunmi Kuku promised visible improvements across Nigerian airports. “We are focused on measurable transformation. By the end of this administration, Nigerians will witness a new era in airport infrastructure,” she affirmed.

This development is seen as a strategic step in reinvigorating Nigeria’s aviation landscape, attracting investment, and ensuring the country becomes a leading hub for regional air transport in West Africa
