The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, has appealed to the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) to reconsider their decision to embark on an industrial strike. He emphasized that strike actions should be the last resort, urging the healthcare professionals to prioritize constructive dialogue with the government.

During a meeting held on Tuesday, Dingyadi stressed the importance of continuous engagement to resolve labour disputes amicably, noting that the government is committed to addressing the grievances raised by the nurses and midwives.

“The path of dialogue remains the most effective way to resolve issues. We understand your concerns and are working towards solutions that will be fair and sustainable,” Dingyadi assured the union leaders.

The proposed strike had been scheduled as a response to lingering challenges related to welfare, working conditions, and professional recognition. However, the Labour Minister called for patience, promising that government interventions are underway.

Both parties have agreed to resume talks on Friday at the Federal Ministry of Health, where further deliberations are expected to chart a way forward and avert disruptions to Nigeria’s healthcare system.

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to fostering industrial harmony, particularly within critical sectors such as healthcare, to ensure uninterrupted service delivery to the Nigerian people.
