Lagos Police Deny Attempt to Release Lebanese Accused of Defiling Eight Children

The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that it attempted to release a Lebanese national accused of defiling eight children. The Command describes the story as false, inaccurate, and misleading.

In a statement made available to Mediaplusng.com, the Police clarified that the case is being handled discreetly by the Gender Unit of the Command. According to the statement, specially trained officers are managing the investigation with professionalism and in line with international best practices.

The Command emphasizes that the investigation follows strict procedures for cases involving children and young persons. It adds that the Gender Unit remains committed to protecting children and ensuring due process, without fear or favour toward any suspect, whether Nigerian or foreign.

Contrary to earlier reports, the Police revealed that the suspect in question is not Lebanese but a national of a Southern African country. The Command confirms that both the child and her biological mother have made statements to the police, clearly stating that no act of defilement occurred.

However, the Command notes that the child’s father—who rarely has custody—is the one who filed the complaint. His allegations are now under careful investigation to ensure fairness and prevent any miscarriage of justice. The outcome, the Police assure, will be made public once investigations are concluded.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has also ordered a discreet investigation into the claims raised in the viral report. He confirmed that the reporter behind the story has been contacted and briefed on the actions being taken to ensure justice is served.

The Commissioner further expressed full confidence in ACP Toyin Kazeem, the Officer-in-Charge of the Gender Unit, who was on an official assignment in the United States when the matter was first reported. He praised her integrity and commitment to handling gender-related and sensitive cases, highlighting her track record of professionalism both locally and internationally.

The Lagos Police Command called on the public and media organizations to trust the Command’s ongoing efforts to ensure justice, especially in cases involving vulnerable persons such as women and children.

“We remain committed to transparency, fairness, and justice. The public will be duly informed once the investigation is concluded,” the statement added.
