The Defence Headquarters confirms that investigations into disciplinary cases involving 16 officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) are now complete, following their arrest in October 2025 over alleged acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations.

According to the military, the investigation report has been submitted to the appropriate superior authorities in line with existing regulations, Mediaplusng.com reports. The probe follows established military procedures and carefully reviews the conduct and circumstances surrounding the affected officers.

Findings from the investigation indicate that some of the officers have serious cases to answer, including allegations linked to actions considered inconsistent with the ethics, values, and professional standards expected of members of the Armed Forces. Military authorities describe the alleged conduct as incompatible with loyalty to constitutional authority.

The Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, says officers found culpable will be formally arraigned before the appropriate military judicial panels for trial in line with the Armed Forces Act and relevant service regulations, Mediaplusng.com reports.

He explains that the process is designed to ensure accountability while strictly observing fairness, transparency, and due process. According to him, no individual is being punished outside the provisions of military law.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria stress that the ongoing actions are purely disciplinary and form part of internal mechanisms to strengthen order, discipline, and operational effectiveness across the services. Military authorities insist that the exercise is not politically motivated.

They also reaffirm the commitment of the Armed Forces to professionalism, unity, and respect for democratic institutions. The military leadership says it will not tolerate any conduct that undermines command structure, national security, or constitutional governance.

The Defence Headquarters assures Nigerians that the military remains stable and focused on its constitutional responsibilities, including defending the nation’s sovereignty and supporting civil authorities when required.

It further urges the public to rely on verified information from official sources and avoid speculation that could undermine confidence in the Armed Forces or ongoing security operations.

The military concludes that maintaining discipline within the ranks remains essential to national security, and all personnel are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct at all times.
