The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), under Operation HADIN KAI, launches a successful air interdiction against terrorist hideouts in AbbagaJiri, located within the Timbuktu Triangle, delivering a major boost to ongoing counterterrorism operations in the North East.

According to Mediaplusng.com, the operation takes place on January 8, 2026, following credible multi-source intelligence that confirms the presence of terrorists, logistics hubs, and concealed structures in the area. NAF air assets conduct coordinated surveillance and precision strikes, targeting key locations used by the insurgents.

The air operation is carefully planned to weaken terrorist capacity, destroy supply routes, and create safe access for advancing ground forces. Military sources say the strikes strictly follow rules of engagement, with strong emphasis on civilian protection and intelligence accuracy.

Mediaplusng.com reports that the strikes destroy several terrorist structures and neutralise armed fighters seen converging on the location. The sustained air assault denies the terrorists freedom of movement and disrupts their operational coordination across the axis.

Following the airstrikes, ground troops advance into AbbagaJiri and surrounding areas, confirming the effectiveness of the operation. The cleared route enables soldiers to secure the area and prevent the regrouping of fleeing terrorist elements.

Reacting to the operation, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, says the mission reflects the Nigerian Air Force’s determination to dominate the airspace in support of joint military operations. He stresses that airpower remains a critical tool in denying terrorists safe havens and operational freedom.

Air Marshal Aneke states that the NAF will continue to deliver precise and intelligence-led strikes wherever terrorists attempt to hide. He adds that the Air Force remains committed to sustained pressure until terrorist networks are fully dismantled.

The operation further highlights the growing synergy between air and ground forces under Operation HADIN KAI. Military analysts say such coordinated actions are key to degrading terrorist influence across the Timbuktu Triangle and wider North East region.

Security authorities maintain that intelligence-driven operations will continue, with increased surveillance and rapid response to emerging threats. The Nigerian Air Force reiterates its commitment to supporting ground troops and protecting civilian communities affected by insurgency.

As operations intensify, the military assures Nigerians that efforts to restore peace, stability, and safe livelihoods in conflict-affected areas remain a top national security priority.
