The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrests two suspected drug traffickers in Taraba State and recovers 141 blocks of compressed cannabis sativa during a stop-and-search operation. The suspects are intercepted while transporting the illicit drugs toward Adamawa and Gombe States in the Northeast.
According to Mediaplusng.com, NDLEA officers act on credible intelligence to intercept sacks disguised as food items and animal feed. A closer inspection reveals the sacks conceal large quantities of cannabis, believed to be destined for criminal networks operating across state lines.
The Taraba State Commander of the NDLEA, Javanson Kwalma, confirms that the operation forms part of intensified intelligence-led efforts to disrupt drug trafficking routes in the region. He says the agency remains focused on cutting off supply chains and preventing illicit drugs from reaching end users and criminal groups.
Mediaplusng.com reports that the NDLEA says Taraba will not serve as a safe haven for drug traffickers, peddlers, or their sponsors. The command pledges sustained operations across all local government areas, improved investigations, and stronger inter-agency collaboration throughout 2026.
NDLEA officials explain that traffickers often disguise drugs in everyday items to evade detection. In this case, sacks meant to appear like legitimate goods are used to conceal the cannabis blocks. Officers uncover the drugs during routine checks, leading to the immediate arrest of the suspects.
The agency highlights its 2025 performance as a strong foundation for current operations. NDLEA records hundreds of arrests and multiple prosecutions last year, crediting improved collaboration with sister security agencies for the gains recorded against illicit drug networks.
One of the suspects, identified as Abubakar Jibril, admits involvement after arrest. He claims it is his first attempt and says he works in a bakery. He tells investigators that a friend asks him to help transport the drugs and pays for his transportation, a claim now under investigation.
NDLEA stresses that confessions do not excuse criminal conduct and that all suspects will face prosecution in line with the law. The agency says investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals connected to the trafficking route and intended recipients of the drugs.
As the fight against illicit drugs continues, NDLEA reiterates its commitment to reducing demand and supply nationwide. The agency calls on the public to support intelligence sharing, noting that community cooperation remains vital to dismantling drug trafficking networks and improving public safety.
