The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a major consignment of illicit drugs disguised as green tea at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
Acting on credible intelligence, NDLEA operatives discovered 66 parcels of Loud, a powerful strain of cannabis, weighing 62.20kg, concealed in wraps of green tea. The consignment had arrived from Thailand via the UAE on an Emirates flight and was seized after over three weeks of close monitoring. The operation was concluded with a joint inspection on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at the MMIA cargo wing.
In a separate bust in Lagos, on Monday, June 2, NDLEA agents also intercepted 1,665kg of skunk along the Lekki-Ajah Expressway, arresting two suspects: Gidado Abdulrasaq Ayinde and Obanla Oluwafemi.
In Kaduna, on Tuesday, June 3, 29-year-old Goodluck Nnaemeka was arrested along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway with 612 bottles of codeine syrup and 2,970 pills of flunitrazepam. That same day, NDLEA apprehended a wanted drug dealer, Kabiru Musa (a.k.a KB), at Kurmin Mashi, recovering 25.7kg of skunk.
In Edo State, a routine stop led to the discovery of 9kg of Loud hidden in the spare tyre of a vehicle driven by Atari Israel (45). Also, two young women, Favour Joy and Joy Igwe, were arrested at Ikpoba Hill in Benin City with over 108kg of drugs, including 106.57kg of skunk, 1kg of Loud, 800g of Colorado, and 302g of methamphetamine.
The NDLEA also continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaigns across Nigeria. Awareness events were held in schools and communities, including Katsina, Ebonyi, Cross River, Lagos, Anambra, and Bayelsa, engaging students, teachers, and traditional leaders on the dangers of drug abuse.
Chairman of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers in MMIA, Lagos, Edo, and Kaduna Commands for their outstanding work. He also praised their nationwide efforts in balancing drug supply control with preventive education.
