The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Adamu Elleman, has deployed three Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to take charge of security operations across the state’s three senatorial districts ahead of the November 1, 2025 Local Government Council Elections.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Wasiu Abiodun, and obtained by Mediaplusng.com, the move is part of a comprehensive security strategy to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process. The deployment will enhance monitoring, supervision, and rapid response to any security concerns during the polls.
To strengthen security coverage, the Command has also mobilized a large number of police officers and tactical assets, including 12 PMF, 61 PMF, Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), Explosive Ordnance Disposal and CBRN Unit (EOD–CBRN), Special Protection Unit (SPU), Tactical Support Team (TST), Crack Squad, and Anti-Kidnapping Unit. These teams will work alongside other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) to ensure effective protection across the 4,950 polling units and 274 wards in all 25 Local Government Areas of the state.
An Election Operation Order has been issued to all Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), detailing their responsibilities, including escorting electoral materials, securing polling stations, and maintaining public order.
Speaking on the preparations, CP Elleman reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to guaranteeing a peaceful, credible, and violence-free election. He urged all political parties, candidates, and supporters to conduct themselves responsibly and obey electoral laws.
The Commissioner also warned that anyone or group attempting to disrupt the electoral process would face the full weight of the law. He emphasized that security agencies are fully prepared to deal with any act of violence or voter intimidation.
In a related statement published by Mediaplusng.com, the police boss announced that there would be a restriction of vehicular movement across Niger State from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day, except for personnel on essential duties.
The Niger State Police Command assured residents of its readiness to protect lives, property, and the integrity of the electoral process as the state heads to the polls.
