The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on violent crimes and armed criminal groups threatening national security. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) neutralized three armed bandits and recovered ten (10) AK-47 rifles during coordinated tactical operations in July 2025.
The operations, which spanned Taraba, Plateau, Adamawa, Nasarawa, and Niger States, were part of a broader offensive to dismantle criminal syndicates involved in kidnappings, armed robbery, gunrunning, and cattle rustling. According to the Force Headquarters, the bandits were intercepted during intelligence-led raids but attempted to escape, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. Three suspects were fatally neutralized, while others fled with gunshot wounds, abandoning their weapons.
The recovered rifles have been traced to several high-profile crimes across the region. Follow-up operations are currently underway to apprehend the remaining members of the criminal network, who have been identified as key masterminds behind recent attacks on communities.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, reiterated the Force’s commitment to national security, assuring Nigerians that intelligence-driven policing will remain at the forefront of efforts to eradicate criminal elements. He urged citizens to support ongoing security initiatives by providing timely and actionable information to law enforcement agencies.
