The Nigerian Army dismisses reports alleging threats of mutiny over salaries and allowances, describing the claims as false, misleading, and sensational. The Army says the publication is aimed at undermining public confidence and national security, stressing that there is no truth to the allegations.
Mediaplusng.com reports that the denial is contained in an official statement signed by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, who states clearly that there has been no threat of mutiny within the Nigerian Army at any time.
According to the Army, mutiny is a grave offence under military law and is completely alien to the values of discipline, professionalism, and loyalty upheld by officers and soldiers. The statement notes that personnel of the Nigerian Army remain loyal to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
Mediaplusng.com further reports that the Army faults the report for relying on anonymous and unverifiable sources circulated through unofficial channels, adding that such narratives do not reflect the conduct or mindset of Nigerian Army personnel, who are trained to address grievances through established internal procedures.
The Army clarifies that promotion increments represent only one part of military remuneration and should not be misrepresented as total earnings. It explains that soldiers’ pay includes consolidated salaries, rank-based allowances, operational allowances, field and hardship allowances, as well as other entitlements that depend on deployment, qualifications, and responsibilities.
The statement adds that the Nigerian Army, working with the Armed Forces of Nigeria and relevant government agencies, continues to implement structured welfare reforms. These include periodic salary reviews, improved operational allowances, better accommodation, enhanced medical care, and insurance packages for troops and their families.
The Army also reveals that the Chief of Army Staff, since assuming office, has initiated active engagements with appropriate authorities to further improve troop welfare, noting that these efforts are already producing positive results.
Contrary to claims of neglect, the Army says the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has consistently shown commitment to the welfare and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces, especially amid evolving security challenges across the country.
Reaffirming its position, the Nigerian Army describes itself as a cohesive, disciplined, and professional force focused on defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and supporting internal security operations. It warns that attempts to portray the institution as unstable or lawless are irresponsible and harmful to national security.
The Army urges the public to disregard unfounded reports and rely on official communication channels for accurate information concerning the Nigerian Armed Forces, particularly the Nigerian Army.
