Nigerians Urged to Comply with U.S. Visa Rules: NIS Issues Fresh Advisory

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has issued a strong advisory urging Nigerian visa holders travelling to the United States to strictly adhere to the terms and conditions attached to their visas

This follows heightened concerns by the U.S. authorities over the misuse of visas by some Nigerian nationals, prompting warnings of stricter enforcement measures.

In an official statement released in Abuja, the NIS reminded travellers that security vetting by U.S. immigration officials do not end upon entry. The agency emphasized that any breach of visa conditions, such as overstaying, engaging in unauthorized activities, or violating the U.S. laws could result in immediate visa revocation, deportation, and even permanent ineligibility for future travel.

The advisory specifically called on Nigerian students studying in the United States to maintain active academic status. According to the NIS, failure to stay enrolled, prolonged absenteeism, or changing academic programs without notifying the appropriate U.S. authorities may lead to visa cancellation and loss of travel privileges.

The U.S. government remains committed to a secure and transparent visa process, and Nigerian applicants are advised to respect all immigration guidelines to avoid punitive actions.

The NIS reiterated its call for Nigerians to uphold the integrity of international travel protocols, warning that non-compliance could damage future opportunities for legitimate travellers.
