In a significant boost to Nigeria’s leadership in regional aviation, the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development has been appointed Chairman of the West Africa Banjul Accord Group (BAG). The appointment was made by Ministers of Transport and Aviation from BAG member states during the ongoing council meeting in Abuja.
The Banjul Accord Group, established on January 29, 2004, comprises seven West African nations Cabo Verde, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. The group is committed to enhancing safe, efficient, and sustainable civil aviation operations across the region.
This appointment, coming under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is a recognition of Nigeria’s bold and forward-looking aviation policies and its growing influence in West African airspace.
The Nigerian Minister takes over the Chairmanship from Alhaji Fandey Turay, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Transport and Aviation, further solidifying Nigeria’s strategic role in shaping aviation development across the sub-region
The announcement underscores Nigeria’s continued commitment to regional cooperation and the advancement of civil aviation standards in line with global best practices.
