The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the suspension of train operations on the Abuja-Kaduna route until further notice following a derailment incident.
Speaking in an interview monitored by Mediaplusng.com, NRC Executive Director, Mr. Opeifa, confirmed that services on the busy corridor have been halted as a precautionary measure. He explained that the decision was taken to ensure safety while investigations are being carried out.
According to him, technical staff of the NRC, officials of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), and other relevant agencies are currently on-site at the scene of the derailment, conducting a joint investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident.
Mr. Opeifa also debunked media reports suggesting that NRC trains were not in good condition, stressing that routine maintenance remains a priority. He further disclosed, as reported by Mediaplusng.com, that a full refund of ticket fees has already been initiated for all passengers who were onboard the affected train.
The Abuja-Kaduna rail line remains one of Nigeria’s busiest and most important transport corridors, linking the Federal Capital Territory to the Northwestern region. Passengers are advised to await further updates from the NRC.
