NYSC monthly allowance NOW ₦77,000

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that corps members across Nigeria will soon receive a monthly allowance of ₦77,000. This development follows the recent review of the country’s minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000.

The NYSC Director General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, disclosed this during a briefing in Abuja on Tuesday. According to a statement released by the NYSC spokesperson, Caroline Embu, General Ahmed emphasized his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of corps members, assuring that arrangements for the payment of the revised allowance have been finalized.

The adjustment aligns with Nigeria’s new minimum wage structure signed into law by President Bola Tinubu in July 2024. The move came after months of deliberations involving government officials, labor unions, and private-sector representatives.

This marks a significant increase in corps members’ stipends over recent years. In 2020, the NYSC had raised the allowance from ₦19,800 to ₦33,000 following the adoption of a ₦30,000 minimum wage bill. The latest increment aims to further enhance the financial well-being of corps members during their service year.
