Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has commended Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, for his impactful development projects, describing them as a sign of strong and visionary leadership.
Obasanjo made the remarks on Tuesday in Gusau, the state capital, while commissioning the newly renovated Ahmad Sani Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital and two key road projects.
According to a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the hospital now boasts a CT scan and MRI machine—a first in Zamfara State. Obasanjo expressed surprise and joy at the improvement, noting that even some teaching hospitals in Nigeria lack such advanced equipment.
> “I’m impressed to see Zamfara making real progress. The CT scan and MRI are functioning well, which is uncommon in many hospitals,” Obasanjo said.
“I’m glad to commission this modern hospital for the benefit of all residents.”

The former president also commissioned the Zannah Road to Abarma Road and praised Governor Lawal for modernizing Zamfara. He encouraged the governor to continue his developmental agenda throughout his term.
> “From what I’ve seen and heard, Zamfara is moving in the right direction. I hope you will keep up the momentum over the next eight years,” he added.
Governor Lawal’s Commitment to Healthcare and Infrastructure
Governor Lawal expressed gratitude to Obasanjo for visiting Zamfara and commissioning key projects.
> “Thank you, Your Excellency, for honoring our invitation. Zamfara is your second home, especially as agriculture—your passion—is our primary economic activity,” the governor said.
He explained that the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital underwent massive expansion and modernization. The project included new doctors’ quarters, a residence for the Chief Medical Director, and improved landscaping for patients’ relaxation.
New additions to the hospital include:
Obstetrics and Gynecology Centre
Radiology Complex
Laboratory Complex
Patient Relaxation Arena
Lawal noted that 14 departments were fully renovated and upgraded with state-of-the-art medical equipment for surgery, dialysis, radiology, dentistry, ENT, and other specialized care.
The hospital is now set to function as a referral center, training facility, and research hub for medical innovation.
Other Commissioned Projects
In addition to the hospital, Governor Lawal and Former President Obasanjo also commissioned:
Zannah Road to Abarma Road
Tsalha Bungudu Road to Kwanar Birnin Ruwa Road
These road projects aim to improve transportation and boost economic activity in Gusau and surrounding areas.
