The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) to digitalise the operations of the Federal Executive Council (FEC). The agreement aims to make all FEC processes completely paperless through the Cabinet Affairs Office (CAO), which coordinates the council’s activities.
According to a report by Mediaplusng.com, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, CON, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office, Dr. Emanso Okop Umobong, says the partnership marks a major step in modernising government operations. He explains that the digitalisation project will enhance efficiency, improve documentation, and streamline the archival process of the Cabinet Office.
Dr. Umobong highlights that the reform will reduce the workload on ministers, who currently manage large volumes of documents during council meetings. He recalls that in December 2024, the Cabinet Affairs Office successfully introduced real-time transcription of FEC proceedings. The next phase, he says, will fully digitalise all council processes, with a target for FEC to operate completely paperless by December 2025.
In his remarks, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, says the agency has already achieved a full digital transition internally and is ready to replicate the same success at the OSGF. He notes that the collaboration will not only support efficiency but also strengthen Nigeria’s commitment to technological advancement in governance.
Mediaplusng.com reports that the initiative reflects the Federal Government’s drive toward a modern and transparent public service powered by innovation and technology. With this partnership, Nigeria moves closer to a future where policy documentation, communication, and decision-making within the Federal Executive Council are seamlessly digital.
