The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is currently holding its 81st meeting at the party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja. This high-level gathering is part of a series of strategic meetings leading up to the much-anticipated National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The session is being presided over by BoT Secretary, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, who addressed members on the importance of unity, discipline, and responsible communication within the party ranks.
In his opening remarks, Senator Makarfi urged PDP leaders and members to exercise caution in their public statements, emphasizing that words spoken in the media can either strengthen or damage the party’s image. He specifically called on party faithful to respect the party’s official communication channels and avoid making divisive or demarketing remarks that could harm the PDP’s reputation ahead of crucial political engagements.
Makarfi further advised that even when discussing individuals who have defected from the party, members should remain diplomatic and refrain from utterances that might close the door on potential reconciliation. He stressed that the PDP remains open to welcoming back former members and that the tone of public discourse could play a pivotal role in fostering their return.
Today’s meeting marks the final BoT gathering in a series of three high-level consultations designed to fine-tune strategies and unify party stakeholders ahead of the NEC meeting.
The PDP, Nigeria’s main opposition party, is under pressure to strengthen internal cohesion as it prepares for upcoming political challenges and national elections.
