The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has officially concluded its crucial meeting, announcing that the party’s National Elective Convention will be held on November 15th and 16th, 2025. The convention, aimed at electing new national officers to lead the party into the next political cycle, is set to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State.
This decision marks a significant step in the PDP’s efforts to reposition and strengthen its internal leadership structure ahead of future elections. The NEC emphasized the importance of a transparent and inclusive process to elect credible leaders who will steer the party’s affairs and unify its diverse membership base.
The convention is expected to attract PDP stakeholders from across Nigeria, including party delegates, governors, National Assembly members, former presidents, and other key leaders. Discussions will focus not only on electing new national officers but also on strategic reforms to address internal challenges and consolidate the party’s opposition role.
PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, in a statement after the NEC meeting, noted that preparations are already underway to ensure a hitch-free and credible convention, while urging members to remain committed to the party’s ideals of unity, progress, and democratic governance.
The upcoming convention in Ibadan is seen by political analysts as a decisive moment for the PDP to rebuild its structure, reconcile aggrieved factions, and reassert itself as a formidable force in Nigeria’s political landscape.
