A coalition of concerned stakeholders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for the zoning of the party’s 2027 presidential ticket to the southern region of Nigeria. The group also reaffirmed support for Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the legitimate National Secretary of the party.
The decisions were reached during a high-level meeting held at the official residence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in Abuja.
According to the group, all official notices regarding the party’s National Convention, National Executive Committee (NEC), and National Working Committee (NWC) meetings must be issued solely by Sam Anyanwu, in line with the party’s constitution.
The stakeholders further demanded that the Acting National Chairman and the recognized National Secretary jointly notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the proposed NEC meeting agenda, emphasizing that this process remains the only constitutionally acceptable method of convening such a meeting.
Prominent figures at the gathering included former Governors Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), current and former federal lawmakers, Rivers State House of Assembly members led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, and several PDP state chairmen.
The group emphasized the importance of upholding party structures and internal democracy as preparations begin for future elections.
