The former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, formally announces his readiness to contest in the 2027 general elections. Mediaplusng.com reports that Obi made the declaration in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, during the OBIDIENT Conference and Official Declaration for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), themed “Activating the PO Effect in ADC.”

Addressing a gathering of Obedient Movement members and ADC supporters, Obi urges Nigerians to unite in rescuing the nation and safeguarding the future of younger generations, who he says will bear the consequences of decades of mismanagement and poor governance. Mediaplusng.com highlights that Obi emphasized the urgency of decisive leadership to reverse systemic inefficiencies and economic decline.

The former governor criticizes the current administration for accumulating unprecedented national debt, warning that much of it will be repaid between 2045 and 2050, long after the policymakers responsible have left office. He stresses that the nation cannot afford prolonged fiscal irresponsibility, underscoring the need for accountability and prudent economic management in the next administration.

Mediaplusng.com notes that Obi also addresses concerns about the electoral process, urging the National Assembly and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fully adopt real-time electronic transmission of polling unit results. He asserts that such measures are essential to eliminate fraud, ensure transparency, and restore public confidence in Nigeria’s elections.

On policy priorities, Obi pledges significant investments in education and healthcare, asserting that sustained national development depends on cultivating human capital. He highlights global examples of countries that achieved prosperity through intentional investments in learning, innovation, and healthcare systems, promising to tackle poverty and reduce crime through strategic economic empowerment initiatives.

Obi further commits to a sweeping anti-corruption agenda, declaring that corruption will decline by at least 60 percent if elected, provided that leadership and immediate family members remain entirely untainted by corrupt practices. Mediaplusng.com reports that his remarks resonated strongly with attendees, who gathered from across the country to show support for his vision of a transparent, accountable, and development-focused government.

The OBIDIENT Conference concluded with a renewed call for Nigerians to join Obi’s movement, reinforcing the growing momentum for his 2027 presidential bid. Supporters reiterated their commitment to grassroots mobilization, emphasizing unity, civic engagement, and adherence to democratic principles as essential pillars for national transformation.
