Plateau Assembly Elects Naanlong Daniel as New Speaker After Dewan’s Resignation

The Plateau State House of Assembly has elected Hon. Naanlong Daniel as its new Speaker following the unexpected resignation of Gabriel Dewan during plenary on Tuesday, July 2, 2025.

Hon. Daniel, who represents Mikang State Constituency, was nominated by Naanbol Listic from Langtang North Central and seconded by Abdul Yanga of Mangu North East. His emergence was confirmed through a unanimous decision on the Assembly floor.

Shortly after his election, the new Speaker paid a courtesy visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who welcomed him and called for continued collaboration between the legislative and executive arms of government. The governor emphasized the importance of unity and good governance in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Plateau State.

This leadership change comes at a critical time as the state government focuses on strengthening institutional partnerships to drive development.
