Plateau Killings: Governor Mutfwang Visits Riyom, Decries Invisibility of Armed Attackers

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has expressed deep concern over the incessant killings and displacement of residents following a deadly attack in the Bidi Jebu community, Ta-Hoss District of Riyom Local Government Area.

The visit comes in the wake of a violent assault by unidentified gunmen who claimed the lives of over 20 people, destroyed properties, and forced many families to flee their homes.

During the on-the-spot assessment, Governor Mutfwang offered heartfelt condolences to the grieving families and pledged the state government’s full commitment to the victims’ welfare, safety, and rehabilitation He emphasized that the government would not abandon the affected communities in their time of need.

Residents, visibly upset and holding placards, voiced their frustration over the repeated attacks that have disrupted farming, destroyed homes, and shattered livelihoods. Many questioned the effectiveness of security measures, demanding urgent intervention from both state and federal authorities.

In an interaction with security agencies, the governor expressed shock and dismay that despite the reported engagement between operatives and the attackers, none of the perpetrators was apprehended or injured. He described the situation as deeply troubling and called for improved intelligence gathering and proactive response.

“This is unacceptable. Our people cannot continue to live in fear while those responsible roam free,” Governor Mutfwang stated.

The Bidi Jebu attack adds to a string of coordinated assaults across Plateau communities, with recent weeks witnessing multiple incidents of violence resulting in deaths, burned homes, and increased displacement

Governor Mutfwang reiterated that the security of lives and property remains a top priority for his administration, and he called for unity in confronting the threat to peace and stability in the state.
