The Plateau State Government confirms the rescue of 25 children abducted in Wase Local Government Area after weeks in captivity. The children were kidnapped on December 21, 2025, along the Zak–Sabon Layi Road while travelling to attend a Maulud celebration, after armed men disguised as vigilantes stopped their vehicle.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the Secretary to the State Government, Arch. Samuel Jatau, announces the rescue while briefing journalists in Jos. He describes the operation as a major breakthrough and says the state worked closely with security agencies from the moment the incident occurred.
Jatau explains that the abductors took the children to an unknown location and held them for several weeks. He says security agencies intensified intelligence gathering, tracking, and coordinated operations across the area to ensure the safe recovery of the victims. The children are eventually rescued on Wednesday evening.
Mediaplusng.com reports that the rescued children include 19 boys and six girls. They are found in stable condition and immediately subjected to medical examinations. Apart from minor injuries such as foot sores and bruises, doctors confirm that all the children are in good health.
The Plateau State Government orders trauma assessments to support the children’s psychological recovery. Jatau says the state will also provide financial support to help their families care for them as they reintegrate back into their communities.
He commends the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies for their professionalism and commitment. The government notes that recent security collaborations are yielding positive results in curbing criminal activities across the state.
The rescued children are formally handed over to officials of Wase Local Government for reunification with their families. Authorities assure residents that security operations will continue in Wase and other vulnerable areas to dismantle criminal networks and prevent future attacks
