Plateau State takes a major step in supporting national security as over 500 youths are cleared for enlistment into the Nigerian Army and prepare to depart for training camps across the country.
The recruitment exercise follows a nationwide military intake and reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture, Mediaplusng.com reports. The selected youths emerge from a transparent screening process designed to ensure fairness, physical fitness, and compliance with national standards.
Officials say the exercise is jointly supervised by representatives of the Federal Character Commission and relevant security agencies. Applicants undergo documentation checks, medical screening, and physical fitness tests before final clearance for training.
According to state authorities, the recruitment aligns with the Federal Government’s renewed push to address insecurity while creating lawful career opportunities for young Nigerians, Mediaplusng.com understands. The initiative also supports Plateau State’s strategy to actively engage its youth population in nation-building.
Speaking on the exercise, the Liaison Director for MDAs and Security Agencies in Plateau State, Ziphion Chrysanthus, says the recruitment reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening the armed forces and Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s resolve to involve Plateau youths in securing the country.
He explains that beyond boosting military manpower, the programme helps reduce youth unemployment and discourages involvement in criminal activities by offering a structured and disciplined career path.
State officials note that the selected candidates represent different local government areas of Plateau State, in line with the principles of inclusiveness and federal character. They add that the process remains peaceful and orderly, with strong cooperation between state and federal institutions.
Parents and community leaders commend the initiative, describing it as a positive opportunity for young people to serve the nation while acquiring skills, discipline, and leadership training that will be useful beyond military service.
As the recruits prepare to leave for their respective training centres, authorities urge them to uphold discipline, integrity, and commitment throughout their training. The state government also assures continued support for the welfare of Plateau indigenes serving in national security institutions.
The latest deployment reinforces Plateau State’s role in national security efforts and highlights growing collaboration between state governments and federal agencies in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
