Police Clarify Bagudo Hospital Explosion, Say Fire Causes Loud Blast

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Kebbi State Police Command confirms that the explosion reported at the General Hospital, Bagudo, is caused by a fire incident and not by a bomb blast or helicopter activity, Mediaplusng.com reports. The clarification follows widespread speculation and unverified claims shared on social media after residents heard loud sounds from the hospital area.

According to the police, investigations and expert assessments show that an inferno within the hospital premises leads to the overheating of gas from air-conditioning units and refrigerators, which then triggers the loud explosions. Security officials say the sounds are consistent with pressure-related bursts from gas cylinders affected by intense heat, not explosive devices or aerial operations, Mediaplusng.com adds.

Further assessments carried out by Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) experts, alongside the Commissioner of Police Tactical Team, confirm that no explosives are involved. The experts also rule out any helicopter or aerial activity connected to the incident. Police say their findings are based on physical inspection, technical evaluation, and on-site verification.

The Kebbi State Police Command reassures residents that no lives are lost and no injuries are recorded during the incident, Mediaplusng.com reports. Officials say hospital staff and occupants evacuate the affected area on time, preventing casualties. While a section of the facility records damage, authorities confirm that the situation remains under control.

Police maintain a strong security presence around the hospital to ensure safety and prevent panic. The Command urges members of the public and the media to ignore rumours suggesting a bomb blast or helicopter crash and to rely only on official updates from security agencies.

The Police Command reiterates its commitment to transparency, public safety, and timely communication. Investigations into the exact cause of the fire continue, while authorities assure residents that there is no security threat linked to terrorism or military activity in the area.
