The Nigeria Police Force says it is recording strong compliance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive stopping the use of police officers for VIP escort and guard duties. According to Mediaplusng.com, a special enforcement team has been set up by the Force Headquarters to monitor officers nationwide and ensure full adherence to the policy.
On 6 December 2025, the team conducted a major monitoring operation across Lagos State, covering the Lekki–Ikoyi Link Bridge, the Domestic Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and other strategic areas. Mediaplusng.com reports that officers showed high discipline, with no case of unlawful VIP escort deployment and no arrests made during the exercise.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, says the Force remains fully committed to implementing the presidential order. He notes that withdrawing personnel from VIP escort assignments will allow more officers to focus on core policing duties such as improving public safety, preventing crime and protecting lives and property nationwide.
The Police assure Nigerians that enforcement of this directive will continue across all states. The IGP urges the public to support the ongoing reforms aimed at building a more professional, efficient and people-centered police service.
