In a major win against kidnapping and banditry, the Nigeria Police Force has rescued 31 kidnapped victims in separate coordinated operations in Taraba and Edo States.
In Edo State, on Friday, July 11, 2025, police operatives responded to a distress call after suspected kidnappers ambushed commuters along the Fugar-Agenebode Road in Etsako East Local Government Area. The attack tragically claimed the lives of two individuals, with several others kidnapped.
A swift rescue operation was launched by the police in collaboration with local security outfits. The team traced the kidnappers to the Obe Hill area, near the Ajaokuta axis, where a gun battle ensued. The kidnappers fled with injuries, and 14 victims were rescued unharmed. Authorities are intensifying efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects.
In Taraba State, on Saturday, July 12, 2025, police operatives responded promptly to a report of another abduction along the Wukari highway, just after Federal University Wukari. A white Toyota bus carrying 17 passengers from Enugu to Yola was attacked by armed kidnappers.
Upon arrival, the police and other security forces advanced toward the scene. The armed criminals abandoned the victims and fled into the bush. All 17 kidnapped passengers were rescued safely.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, praised the swift response and bravery of the officers involved. He reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to protecting lives and dismantling criminal gangs across Nigeria.
