The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in collaboration with Radio Tactics Group Limited, has completed a nationwide specialized training on the Athena Forensic Intelligence Solution (AFIS) to strengthen its fight against cybercrime. According to Mediaplusng.com, the training, which took place from July 9 to August 15, 2025, had 192 officers drawn from the 36 state commands, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and 10 specialized formations.
The intensive program was designed to boost the digital, forensic, and intelligence capacity of police officers in combating cyber-related crimes across Nigeria. Experts from the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) and Radio Tactics Group facilitated the training. Participants were equipped with advanced skills in threat identification, processing communication and location data from SIM cards, GPS devices, and satellite phones, as well as forensic analysis of grey-market phones, biometric capture, and the use of forensic hotlists.
In a related development, operatives of the NPF-NCCC arrested three suspects—Gbenga Samuel, Dele Titus, and Olalekan Oke—in Abuja and Lagos for cyberstalking, identity theft, and online fraud. Reports by Mediaplusng.com reveal that the suspects were engaged in large-scale impersonation schemes and other cyber offenses.
On July 18, 2025, the suspects allegedly hacked into a WhatsApp account, contacted the victim, and demanded ₦3 million under threat of exposing confidential data. A detailed forensic investigation led to their arrest, recovery of the compromised account, and the uncovering of an organized cybercrime network currently under investigation.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to adopting modern and digital approaches in combating cybercrime. He also emphasized continuous training and retraining of police personnel to meet global best practices in handling emerging security threats.
