President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Reverend Matthew Hassan Kukah, on his 73rd birthday, marked on August 31, 2025.
In a goodwill message, President Tinubu joins the Catholic Church and the Christian community in honouring Bishop Kukah, describing him as a respected priest and advocate for the poor whose life’s work continues to shape people-focused policies in Nigeria and across Africa.
The President notes that Bishop Kukah has combined his spiritual calling with intellectual contributions to strengthen democracy, promote peace, and encourage good governance.
Highlighting his role in Nigeria’s political history, President Tinubu recalls Bishop Kukah’s participation in the Truth Commission, the Political Reform Conference, and the Electoral Reform Committee. He also praises his efforts as Chairman of Nigeria’s Inter-Religious Dialogue, where he worked to foster harmony between Christians and Muslims.
“Bishop Kukah’s role in the return of democracy and his constant advocacy for peace and justice remain remarkable,” the President says.
As the Bishop clocks 73, Tinubu prays for God’s blessings of long life, good health, and wisdom, while affirming that Kukah’s consistent voice for democracy and human development will remain a national treasure
